1995 Chevy Corvette pace car

[Editor's note: In honor of Corvette being chosen to pace the 2002 Indy 500 and to celebrate Corvette's 50th Anniversary, I have chosen to feature another great Corvette pace car this month.]
In 1995 the Corvette made its third appearance as the pace car for the Indy 500. Chevrolet produced only 527 pace car replicas, and Tommy Neift is the proud owner of car number 149.
"Since I was old enough to dream about cars, the Chevy Corvette has captured my imagination," says Tommy. Unfortunately financial constraints kept his dream from becoming a reality until February 2002, when Tom stumbled across a "for sale" ad on a car club website. He contacted the owner and made the 7-hour drive to Orlando to see the car. "As soon as I saw the car, I knew I had to have it," says Tommy. The car had only 13,000 miles on it and was in immaculate condition. Tom spent the evening in Orlando, picked up the car the next day and began the trip home. He says he "received several jaw-dragging looks" on his trip back to Niceville.
As with all of the 527 pace car replicas, Tommy's 1995 Corvette has an automatic transmission and 5.7L, 300hp LT1 engine, along with a performance axle ratio and ZR1 wheels and rotors. Interior amenities include black leather with embroidered Indy 500 logo, Bose CD/cassette stereo, and power driver and passenger seats. The car now has 15,000 miles on it and is kept garaged and covered. Although he has not taken the car to any car shows yet, Tommy says there are several coming up this year that me may try to attend.
