Car of the Month
April/May
2001 When it was selected to pace the 1984 Indy 500, the Pontiac Fiero turned some heads as the only mid-engine car ever to lead the race and the smallest engine to date. Al Gould is certain to turn heads too with his beautiful Indy edition Fiero. Al is the second owner of this '84 Fiero and bought the car in 1998 at 64,000 miles. He says he only drives the car in the summer and hardly ever in the rain, but in the last three years Al has managed to rack up over 67,000 miles, taking the car all over New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut and as far away as Nova Scotia and Oklahoma. Even with more than 131k miles, the car still looks and runs great. Al has cared for the car religiously with regular oil and transmission fluid and filter changes and says the car gets up to 32 MPG. He also keeps seat covers on to preserve the commemorative embroidery. The car is an automatic and includes power windows, locks, and mirrors. The car originally had the pace car lettering on it but the original owner had the decals removed. (If anyone knows where to find them, Al would be very grateful! You can contact him at lgould@snet.net.) For being selected as "Car of the Month", Al has won his choice of a Johnny Lightning pace car replica from the gift shop, an 8x10 information sheet on the 1995 Corvette pace car, or a poster from the IndY2K Chevrolet Pace Car Reunion. If you would like to submit your pace car replica for "Car of the Month", simply send a photo and description of your car to If you do not have a scanner, e-mail me and I will provide you with a mailing address so you can snail-mail photos to me. Please remember that the more details you can provide about your car, the better!
